Exchange Directions
The Ecumenical Volunteers Programme offers various ways to get involved internationally. Which exchange option is right for you depends on where you live.
North-South Exchange
Do you live in Germany and would like to get involved abroad?
In the North-South Exchange, you will spend several months in a partner country. You will join a host organisation, take part in its day-to-day work and experience different ways of life first-hand.
The programme is aimed at young people living in Germany who are interested in international voluntary service abroad.
South-North Exchange
Do you live in a partner country and would like to get involved in Germany?
Through the South-North exchange programme, you will come to Germany for several months. You will work in a placement organisation, become part of a local team and gain first-hand insight into different ways of life.
The programme is intended for young people in countries where the Evangelical Mission in Solidarity (EMS) is active. Participation is arranged through the respective churches and organisations in the participants’ home countries.
Learning together across borders
Both forms of exchange bring together people from different countries and walks of life. Through shared everyday experiences, new perspectives emerge, experiences are shared and mutual understanding grows.
Exchange is not a one-way street – it thrives on cooperation and mutual learning in an intercultural context.
