Annabelle

Hello,

My name is Annabelle Schiller. I am 19 years old and I come from a small village in the Palatinate region of Germany. I am going to Jordan at the end of August for ten months. While there, I will be volunteering with Anna at the Arabic Episcopal School (AES) in Irbid.

I decided to spend a year abroad after my A-levels at the start of sixth form, as I didn’t want to go straight to university or start vocational training. I also had a strong desire to travel. An ÖFP with EMS seemed perfect for me as it would enable me to contribute meaningfully while immersing myself in a new culture and language.

The preparatory seminars only reinforced this decision and increased my anticipation for my placement. They also made me realise the responsibility we have as volunteers to break down prejudices and promote dialogue between religions and cultures.

I’m really looking forward to this adventure and the challenges that will show me who I am and who I want to be, and allow me to see things from a different perspective. I’m also curious to see how I’ll settle back in once I return to Germany.
