Anna

Hello!

My name is Anna, I’m 18 years old, and I’m from Landau in der Pfalz. From the end of August, I will be doing my voluntary service in Irbid, in northern Jordan. I’ll be working at the Arab Episcopal School, founded in 2003 by Father Esaid, which serves as a meeting place for sighted, visually impaired, and blind children. I will be assisting in the nursery and at the school, for example by helping the teachers in class or teaching German.

After passing my A-levels in spring 2018, I knew I wanted to go abroad before the stress of university study started all over again. However, I wanted to do more than just travel the world as a tourist; I wanted to have the opportunity to immerse myself in another country and gain a deeper insight. I also really enjoy working with children, which is why I ultimately decided to undertake voluntary work with EMS.

I’m therefore very excited to see what awaits me in Jordan, and I’m looking forward to gaining new experiences and overcoming linguistic and cultural barriers. I am particularly interested in how Christians practise their faith alongside other religions as a minority in the Middle East. I’m also looking forward to discovering the differences and similarities between Germany and Jordan, and to sharing my experiences.

I hope that my year abroad will help me get to know myself better, teach me to cope with difficult situations, and enable me to grow from them. I hope to have many wonderful experiences from which I can learn.
