School for children with disabilities
Dear readers,
I am delighted to share my experiences of completing a 10-month voluntary placement on the island of Sulawesi.
My name is Emil, I am 18 years old, and I live with my family in Brussels. I completed my A-levels there this year. In my spare time, I play the violin, sing in a choir and play hockey.
I was particularly interested in the role at RBM (Rehabilitasi Bersumberdaya Masyaraka), an organisation that supports children with disabilities and their families, because it is so varied.
On the one hand, I will be working in a school, where I will support the children in class. The other part of my work involves assisting with the mobile service. This involves riding a scooter to visit families in their homes. I am sure this will provide me with valuable insights into the lives of local people.
Firstly, I will fly from Frankfurt to Bali at the beginning of September with Micha and Hanna. There, I will form my first impressions of a country that has been unknown to me until now. Then, I’ll fly on to Makassar, the capital of Sulawesi, with Hanna. It’s then an 8-hour drive to Toraja, where I’ll be based.
You can read about my experiences on my blog.
Selamat Tinggal!
Emil
