Emma

Hello everyone!

My name is Emma Cohnen, I’m 18 years old, and I’m from Stuttgart. I’m 18 years old, I’ve just finished school, and now I can look forward to and prepare for my ÖFP.

Here in Stuttgart, I’m heavily involved in music. I mainly play the oboe, and I hope to be able to contribute musically at my placement in Elim, a village in southern South Africa. I’m also interested in politics and have served as a youth councillor in my district for the past two years.

I’m looking forward to finding out exactly what my work will entail and getting to know the people at the Elim Home. The Elim Home is a care home for children and young adults with disabilities. I really enjoy working with people, and I find it rewarding to be there for others. During my school days, my friends and I therefore set up a sports project for children from the nearby refugee centre.

At our last preparatory seminar, I had the chance to meet some of the South-North volunteers, as well as some members of the youth network. I think it’s wonderful to become part of the global EMS network, and I’m glad that I’ll have the opportunity to stay involved even after my voluntary service. I’m looking forward to meeting more people from the network, as well as many others from South Africa, and getting to know them.
