Daily Life at the Schneller School and Life in Amman
Marhaban! It’s been almost two months since I arrived in Amman. However, to me it feels more like I’ve only been here for two…
My name is Jeremias, and I will be starting my voluntary service in Jordan in a few days’ time. Over the next eight months, I am looking forward to sharing with you my impressions, experiences and challenges at the Theodor Schneller School (TSS) and in Jordan.
But first, a few words about myself:
I am 18 years old and I successfully completed my A-levels this year. In my spare time, I play hockey and am involved with the Scouts in my parish.
Even while at school, I knew that I wanted to do something practical after my A-levels before starting university. I wanted to use this time to gain new experiences, develop personally, and do something for others. After doing some research, I realised that voluntary service was exactly what I was looking for.
Unfortunately, my originally planned FSJ in South Africa fell through due to visa issues, but I was offered the opportunity to do voluntary service at the Theodor-Schneller School in Jordan instead. Although Jordan is far removed from my original destination, both geographically and culturally, I was immediately excited by the chance to live and work in a completely new environment.
While in Amman, I will primarily assist pupils with their homework at the Theodor Schneller School, as well as supporting teachers in their German and English lessons. I’m looking forward to the new challenges, meeting the people and immersing myself in a different culture.
Over the next eight months, I’d like to take you along on this journey and share my personal impressions with you in this blog.
See you soon!
Jeremias
