School for deaf and deafblind children
Hello!
I’m Julia, I’m 19 years old, and I’m from Herrnhut, an idyllic little town in eastern Saxony. I have lived here all my life with my parents and three brothers. In my spare time, I enjoy drawing, making music, reading and performing in plays. I also love games and film nights with my family or friends.
I successfully completed my A-levels this year. When deciding what to do next, I realised quite early on that I wanted to do voluntary work abroad. That’s why I’m really looking forward to spending this year in Jordan.
I will be working at the ‘Holy Land Institute for the Deaf’ in the city of Salt, a school for deaf and deafblind children. This will certainly be challenging, but also exciting! Together with Margarete, I will be helping out with leisure activities and daily life at the boarding school and supporting the staff. I am really looking forward to that. Most of all, I’m looking forward to communicating in sign language, which will be an entirely new experience for me.
I’m also excited to experience Jordanian culture and discover new perspectives.
The next 10 months are sure to be eventful, and I’ll be taking you along for part of the journey through this blog. However, it’s important to me to point out that everything I write reflects my own perspective and may not apply to everyone.
See you soon!
Julia
