Experiencing lots of new things

New cultures, new experiences, new acquaintances. Over the next 10 months, I’ll be encountering all of these things, and I’d love to share my experiences with you here on my blog.

But who am I, and where am I heading? My name is Laura, I’m 19 years old, and I come from a small village called Aspach near Stuttgart. I’m 19 years old and until recently I was sitting my A-levels. I love sports, dancing, music and singing. I prefer to spend my free time with my friends and family.

Now that I have finished school, I am eager to gain new experiences and try something completely different. I think this will be possible during my placement at the Presbyterian Lay Training Centre in Tamale, where I will be living and helping out for the next ten months. Tamale is in the north of Ghana, the country that I will be travelling to with my two fellow volunteers.
What I particularly value about my voluntary service is the opportunity to get to know people with a completely different worldview to my own. Discovering new ways of life that were previously completely foreign to me is interesting. Ghana’s religious culture will also be completely different and incredibly fascinating. I am looking forward to sharing and deepening my faith while living with the local people.

I believe that my fellow volunteers and I will grow and be enriched by these experiences, gaining many new ideas and perspectives.
