Broadening my horizons

Hello,

I’m Lisa, from Villingen in the Black Forest. In a few weeks, my big adventure will begin. I’m heading to Jordan for ten months to work at the Theodor Schneller School in Amman. The school comprises a boarding school and a day school, among other things. While I’m there, I’ll be supporting the staff alongside my fellow volunteers, Luka and Felix.

In my spare time, I enjoy meeting up with friends, listening to music, helping out at the youth centre where I support a study group and simply being outdoors in nature. I have also been supporting refugees living in Villingen for three and a half years. I’ve built a particularly strong relationship with one Syrian family and feel very fortunate to have what feels like a second family.

Driven by the desire to better understand my ‘second family’ after spending time in an Arab country, I applied to EMS for the Ecumenical Volunteer Programme and was accepted. I’m fascinated by Arab culture and am looking forward to learning a new language in Jordan and meeting lots of new people.
