Of Festivities and Holidays
Hello! In this blog post, I’ll start by telling you about my Advent and Christmas period at HLID, and then I’ll talk about the…
I’m Margarete, I’m 18 years old, and I’m from Herrnhut, a small town in eastern Saxony. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, singing in a choir and playing sports.
I successfully passed my A-levels a few months ago and I’m now really looking forward to doing more practical work than I did at school. I’d known for a long time that I wanted to do a voluntary social year (FSJ) after finishing school. I applied to EMS with no great expectations, and now I’m going to fly to Jordan in less than a month! There, I will be working at the HLID (Holy Land Institute for the Deaf) in Salt. HLID is an educational institution for deaf and deafblind children. My main role will be to support the staff by organising leisure activities and providing afternoon care for the boarding school children.
I’m particularly looking forward to experiencing a different culture and meeting new people. I’m also curious to see how I’ll get on with sign language and Arabic, and what other challenges await me.
On my blog, I’ll be sharing my experiences and day-to-day life, as well as the challenges I face. I hope you enjoy reading my posts and will visit my blog again soon!
See you soon!
Margarete
