Miriam

Hello,

My name is Miriam and I’m from Regensburg, a small town in Bavaria. However, I’ll soon be moving to Khammam, a small town in the Indian state of Telangana.

I’ll be working at St Mary’s Rehabilitation Centre, which runs a girls’ home, a school and a special school for children with intellectual disabilities. I don’t yet know what my main duties will be.

Here in Germany, I have always pursued many hobbies alongside my studies. Music is the most important thing for me; it enriches my life every day when I practise the horn or piano, play in the orchestra or sing and dance at the top of my voice. I am also an avid theatre and concert-goer. Despite my own lack of talent, I am very interested in literature and art, and I read a lot and spend time in art museums. I can get excited about a wide range of topics. What is important to me is spending plenty of time with other people: friends, family, or even acquaintances.

I have been considering doing voluntary service for quite some time, especially since my school exchange to South Africa. This showed me how wonderful it is to immerse oneself in a culture, whilst also raising questions about our way of life in Germany. Perhaps through my voluntary service, I will find the answers to these questions and learn about myself through the challenges I face. At the same time, I am incredibly excited to discover a whole new world and way of life.

The time to say goodbye is slowly drawing nearer, but so is the time to arrive. This blog and its readers will accompany me throughout this period, and I hope to share my experiences with you in a realistic way.
