Between the children’s ward and the wedding – my best experiences
In addition to an insight into my work, this blog is also about my best experiences from the beginning of the year. Including a…
I’m Mirjam, I’m 18 years old, and I live with my parents and siblings in Schwäbisch Hall, a town about an hour’s drive from Stuttgart. I passed my A-levels in July this year. I’m really interested in science. I also enjoy playing sports. For example, I used to do triathlons. I stopped doing them before my A-levels, though. I have also been playing the flute for 12 years.
Now that I have finished my A-levels, I am looking forward to spending ten months in Ghana. From September, I will be doing voluntary work at the Presbyterian Hospital in Agogo. My role will mainly involve looking after the children. This will include planning lessons and leisure activities, as well as various creative tasks.
I chose EMS for my voluntary service because I wanted to go abroad after my A-levels. I was particularly interested in the Ghanaian placement because I would be working with children in a hospital.
In the end, what convinced me to undertake this voluntary service was the opportunity to meet new people and learn from their personal experiences. However, I am aware that these 10 months may also present some challenges. For example, cultural differences and being away for 10 months might be difficult. Overall, however, I am looking forward to my time in Ghana. Through my blog posts, I’d like to share my experiences and impressions with you and let you in on the experience.
Finally, I would like to emphasise that all my blog posts reflect my own personal experiences and opinions, and should therefore be viewed as subjective rather than as an accurate description of the country.
Akyire!
Mirjam
