Broadening my horizons

Hello everyone!

I’m Nathalie Schmid, I’m 19 years old, and I come from a small village near Geislingen an der Steige. Having finished my A-levels in spring 2018, I am now asking myself: what comes next? Ever since secondary school, I’ve known that I wanted to go abroad and explore the world. After giving it some thought, I realised that I wanted to do voluntary work.

From September, I will be starting my placement in Nandyal, in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. I will be living and working at the ‘Holy Cross Boarding Home for Girls’, a girls’ boarding school, for 10 months. My duties will include helping the girls with their homework and organising activities for them in their free time.

I still can’t quite believe that I’m setting off in just under a month. I’m really looking forward to it and can’t wait to see and experience everything that India has to offer. I’m eager to experience a new culture first-hand, rather than just being a tourist in India. I’m also curious to see how Christians live out their faith in other parts of the world. At the same time, I can’t help but feel a little sad about everything I’ll be leaving behind: my family, my boyfriend, my friends, my hobbies, and my familiar surroundings.

I’m looking forward to an exciting and challenging time in India, and I can’t wait to see what experiences I’ll have. Here on my blog, I’ll be sharing my adventures with you regularly.
