Get to know me in a different context

Hello,

my name is Solveig Heidtmann. I’m 18 years old, I’m from Stuttgart.

After finishing my A-levels this year, I knew straight away that I wanted to go abroad, and the EMS ÖFP programme seemed like the perfect opportunity.

In five weeks’ time, that moment will finally arrive, and I’ll be flying to India with my fellow volunteers. I’ll be staying at Wesley’s Girls’ Hostel in Secunderabad for 10 months. It’s a boarding school for girls aged 9–21.

My daily life in Germany is shaped by many hobbies: I play football in a women’s team, I used to sing in the school choir, I co-led a youth group, I ran Sunday school, I was part of a youth group and I often used the holidays for skiing or hiking.
My daily life in India will be different: there will be a prayer service every morning and evening, and I will give tuition for about two hours every afternoon. I am very excited about exploring the megacities of Secunderabad and Hyderabad, trying the food, and of course experiencing the culture.

I hope that the new environment and insights will broaden my horizons and allow me to see my life from a different perspective.

Most of all, I want to get to know myself better and grow through new tasks and challenges.
